Auf Mappenumschlag: Released as a limited edition of 75 in 1972, this illustrated book of 20 lithographs and accompanying texts is a collaboration between John Cage, illustrator Lois Long and botanist Alexander H. Smith. Printed at Hollanders Workshop, Inc. in New York, the original lithograph sheets were 22.5 x 30 in., resized here for easier handling.

Seite 1: Ten original color lithographs by Lois Long, life-size illustrations of fifteen species. Ten lithographs by John Cage in handwriting using superimpositions of five graded lithographic pencils. [...] The pages show all the various changes that occurred in the texts as they were composed. Due to this and the I Ching determined superimpositions, the texts are not easily read; however, together with botanical statements by Alexander H. Smith, they are printed on a transparent Japanese paper which overlays the mushroom illustrations by Lois Long.
